Replacing After Only 40K Miles
Mike· Review provided by toyotires.com · February 12, 2024
I've run Open Country A/Ts for the past 12 years or so, both AT2s and AT3s, and, overall, I've been happy with the tires. I live in Maine so the weather conditions that I drive in range anywhere from hot and dry summer roads (pavement and dirt), to rain-soaked highways, to heavy snow and slush back roads. In general, these tires have performed well, feeling tight and planted (no sagging or floating feeling) in turns, relatively grippy in snow and wear evenly. I've been happy with their performance, which is why I've run them for so long.

Unfortunately, my most recent set of Open Country AT3s have not held up. This winter I've noticed a marked decrease in winter weather performance, especially in slushy snow and even on packed snow (i.e. recently plowed) roadways. And when it comes to any sort of ice, forget about it. During my most recent oil change/tire rotation, I was advised that my tires, despite only have approximately 40K miles on them, are down to about 4/32s. These tires were installed in Summer 2021, at 123,000 miles and I'm now sitting at roughly 164,000 miles in Feb 2024.

Winter weather in Maine commonly runs through late March-early April so I will be replacing these tires in the next week so to make it through the rest of Winter without having to worry about slipping and sliding on my daily 35 mile work commute. Since I'll be switching to a set of Falkens, I won't be able to take Toyo up on their 65K Limited Mile Warranty guarantee, as they only provide a credit toward the purchase of another Toyo tire product. I just can't justify purchasing another set of Toyos with how these tires ones have held up.
Never been so disappointed

I was recently in the market for some new tires for my Honda Passport and was looking to replace the tires from the manufacturer. I wanted a tire that was highly rated for Snow and Ice and also had more of an aggressive look.

After much research on Tire Rack and advice from friends I was torn between Falken Wildpeak A/T and the Toyo Open Country AT / III's for my crossover. After further research I called the local tire shop who I used for years and set up a time to have the Toyo's installed. I knew upon purchasing these tires that I would experience SOME road noise as that is typically expected when swapping from a light duty all season to an A/T tire.

After my tire appointment I was really excited to get on the road with these new tires. However after picking up my vehicle I was immediately shocked at how unbelievably loud the Toyo's were at low speed. At highway speeds I experienced extreme vibration to the point my seats were shaking. I immediatley called up the tire shop and requested a rebalance.

After the rebalance I found that this did not make a difference with the vibration I was experiencing. in fact it seems like after I put more mileage on the tires the vibration and noise is getting worse and worse!

To spend over $1000.00 on a set of tires and experience this level of road noise and vibration on tires with less than 2000 miles is unacceptable. I called the local tire shop and requested to have these returned but sadly they would not warrant the return. The tires look fantastic however do not live up to the expectation the tire manufacturer places on them.

Save your money and purchase the Falken Wildpeaks for your vehicle instead!
Would buy again in a heartbeat!!!

2022 Chevy 2500HD: 4x4 These tires are amazing!!! There was plenty of room in the wheel well, so I upgraded from the factory 245/75/R17 to 275/70/R17. Basically got an effortless 1" lift, WAY better grip/traction, & tires with more load capacity than the truck itself! The new tire size makes the truck's computer mpg "gauge" appear worse than the factory tires; but based on real world driving, the difference is negligible. For such an aggressive tread pattern, severe road noise would be expected...but not with these! There's a slight noise after 3K miles, but it's almost undetectable. Tread depth seems unchanged at 3K miles. I have towed a 12,000lb. fifthwheel 500 miles with the new tires & the truck seems much more responsive now. Wet road grip/traction is fantastic regardless of water depth encountered. Snow grip/traction is outstanding! While not in 4 wheel drive, drove through 6" of snow as if it wasn't even there! Mud grip/traction and handling is great! I've pulled out several 4x4 trucks that were stuck in the snow &/or mud and the drivers are always amazed, then curious as to what tires I have on my truck. I was originally debating between these Open Country AT 3s or Dueler Revo 3s (having had past experience with the Open Country AT 2s & Dueler Revo 2 on Jeeps years ago). I know I made the right decision and would purchase again in a heartbeat!

These tires have been fantastic. 2020 Silverado stock Bridgestones were cracking apart at 32K while on a cross country trip with a camper. Picked these up at a local mom and pop shop in Texas and have been everything and more. I no longer have to put winter tires on the truck because these are excellent in the winter. They are not snow tires but they earn every bit of the 3 peak rating. They are controllable and consistent in the winter. Wet traction is middle of the road but not bad in any way, to be expected for an LT. Just worth mentioning for those who are in rain all the time and not used to LT tires. Summer performance is excellent. They are quiet compared to competition. Very impressive. MPGs have not really taken a hit as I had expected it to go. That was a bonus. Off road these things just eat. Deep snow, they eat. I am so impressed with the confidence I have when leaving the pavement. I have been in some ugly situations on UP/Michigan remote "roads" and got out of trouble confidently. I have driven hundreds of miles in blizzard conditions and unmaintained winter roads. No fear with these tires and no burden to take them off come spring. I have also towed about 15K miles with these things and they are just exceptional. They are wearing very evenly and slowly for 25K miles. I have full confidence that I will easily see 50K miles of consistent wear unlike so many LT and AT tires that cup or roar after a couple of years. I have not tolerance for that so these have been excellent and predictable. 10 ply has been perfect for towing and eat broken roads from the midwest to New Orleans with ease. I have hit holes and debris that I was sure should have blow my tires and alignment and these tires just take the hit and carry on. I have to say, these are the best truck tires that I have ever purchased and I will stick with them going forward. They are well built and worth every single penny.
