January 14, 2014Hmmm...can't decide if I liked this or not. Probably liked it b/c I'm thinking about it. At first, I was really bummed that the book didn't end 50 pages to the end, but the sort of predictable twist at the end did bring some closure to the book. I thought some of the chase/"I know he did it" parts dragged and felt like the middle dragged out until a decision was finally made to nab the guy, already. Didn't completely understand why ALL the "important" officials were characters in the book-some didn't add much to the plot, although I realize that in real life all would be involved in a high profile case like this.

January 17, 2014Great book! It kept you on the edge of your seat. The Curtlees, a family with money, try to protect their son who has been in prison for a number of years. The son, Ro, is released from prison awaiting a retrial. The Curtlees tried to destroy the lives of those involved with his original conviction--a police officer, the head of the jury, and an attorney. Now that Ro is released from prison, they continue in their attempts to destroy these people and others involved in the case.

January 17, 2014I couldn't put this book down. This was even though I had a good idea about the ending. Mr. Lescroart keeps the reader on 'the edge of his seat' hoping that nothing really terrible will happen to the main characters. His characters are well developed and the ongoing characters are like old friends. I recommend this book and, although this is not, all of Mr. Lescroart's Dismas Hardy books.

January 16, 2014This is really a 3.5 star book. But since I can't do half-stars here, I waffled b/w three and four. Ultimately went with four stars because I found the novel to be a proverbial page-turner. You'll root for the good guys, hiss at the bad guys, and appreciate the ending that isn't completely tied up as expected.
