PCLe4.0 Supports Read speed 7000MB+Heatsink=Cool
· Review provided by samsung.com · April 9, 2024
Roughly a couple months ago I finally had enough of dealing with my Playstation 5's lack of storage space. The PS5 is an incredible machine but because of its exceptional performance & abilities the one area that the system comes up short in is its stock available storage space! So, that's when I did some research & made a very wise investment in a Samsung 980 PRO PCLe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD w/Heatsink!
The first thing I want to touch on is how easy it was to install! I enjoy playing games & using technology in general but I never claimed to be tech savvy. That's why I was so relieved when not even 5 minutes had passed since I began to install the SSD and already I had installed it successfully! I can't stress how foolish I felt for procrastinating given how simple it turned out.
Lastly, there's a reason why Samsung has such a stellar reputation & anyone who chooses to purchase this particular SSD can expect the perfect mix of durability & performance that Samsung is known for. I have at least 40 mostly large games downloaded on my PS5 & I'm pretty sure I still have over 1 TB left to use! Furthermore, I haven't experienced one problem with this Samsung SSD & I have to say it's quite a good feeling to know that Samsung's SSD's are manufactured to endure high temperatures because I've heard that many of Samsung's competitors lag quite a ways behind in terms of their inability to endure at higher temperatures for extended time periods compared to the very reliable Samsung SSD's which seem to thrive for remarkably long time periods in all manner of conditions! Oh, and I also wanted to mention the incredibly speedy rate at which downloads are consistently completed, time after time or even back-to-back-to-back! So, with that being said, I believe a Samsung Internal SSD is a must have for all gamers, given the massive exponential growth of games that will no doubt continue increasing in size at faster rates.

The Samsung 980 PRO 2TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD is generally considered a high-performance drive with strong reviews. Here's a summary:
Pros:
* Blazing Fast Speeds: Leverages the PCIe 4.0 interface for significantly faster read and write speeds compared to previous generations.
* Excellent Performance: Excels in real-world scenarios, resulting in noticeable improvements in game loading times, application launches, and overall system responsiveness.
* High Capacity: 2TB offers ample storage for demanding users with large game libraries, media collections, and numerous applications.
* Reliable Brand: Samsung is a well-established and reputable brand known for its quality SSDs.
* 5-Year Warranty: Provides peace of mind with a solid warranty period.
Cons:
* Price: Can be relatively expensive compared to some competing PCIe 4.0 drives.
* TurboWrite Limitations: The size of the SLC cache (used for faster initial writes) may not be as large as some competitors.
* Average Endurance: While still good, the endurance rating is not the highest in the market.
Overall:
The Samsung 980 PRO 2TB is a top-tier PCIe 4.0 SSD that delivers exceptional performance. If you're looking for the fastest possible speeds and have the budget, it's an excellent choice. However, consider factors like price and specific needs before making a purchase.

So great I bought 3! Full speed in PCIe 3.0 slot!

I was using the 970 EVO Plus in my laptops until recently. I purchased a 990 Pro for my desktop and decided to put the 980 Pro it was replacing into my business laptop. When I saw that it stepped down to PCIe 3.0 x4 and ran at full speed I decided to buy two more for my gaming laptop!

The 2TB 980 Pro is pretty unique in my experience. I have about a dozen different computers all doing different things and for different projects (business at home) so I have a storage space issue sometimes. I upgrade drives all the time… or so I thought! I no longer have a need now that all of my drives are 2TB options.

The Pro line of SSD/NVMe drives have hardware based encryption (Opal 2 not Pyrite) as a general rule of thumb, fast read and write speeds, cheap price point for the tier, and they have a great warranty.

When I put the 2TB 980 Pro in my PCIe 3.0 devices I never in my wildest dreams expected to get full PCIe 3.0 speeds. Other brands just throttle the read and write speeds. Samsung’s controller actually negotiates a 3.0 link and operates at full 3.0 spec! I do get notified in Samsung Magician that it could run faster in a PCIe 4.0 slot. As annoying as that is it does tell me that when my laptops die I won’t need to be concerned with the capacity of its replacement. We all know that can cost hundreds to increase at initial build. Samsung has made the decision to build a high quality long lasting device!

Samsung has earned its spot as my top storage option for their stability and performance across the board. So for those wondering if it’s worth investing in a PCIe 4.0 NVMe drive for their PCIe 3.0 limited devices the answer is “Absolutely!” Grab a Samsung 980 Pro and you’ll never look back!
Stripped heatsink screw but otherwise works perfectly fine and arrived on time
Michael· Review provided by adorama.com · May 13, 2024
Arrived on time and is still functioning well. I encountered one problem with this purchase, but I don't believe normal buyers are going to have this issue. I intended to remove the heatsink from this SSD so I could attach the motherboard included heatsink to it, but one of the screws on the heatsink arrived stripped, making it impossible to remove. Fortunately I have a vertical graphics card, so I could hide the SSD behind the graphics card, but I still think it is a disappointment.
There is a version of this SSD for sale without the heatsink, but the heatsink version of this SSD had an amazing deal attached to it at the time of purchase, making it too good to pass up on. While it is a disappointment, I don't really see the need to return the item over it. It still works exactly as intended and I was able to successfully hide it.
Overall, besides the heatsink removal problem, everything else about this experience was great. The item arrived on time and works fully as intended. Most people aren't going to buy this item to remove the heatsink, and I do believe I just had bad luck getting a stripped screw, so I would say if you're interested in buying this SSD, go for it.
