Peter Stringfellow has insisted that "being a father at my age is fantastic", as he enthused about becoming a dad again aged 74.

The nightclub owner is currently expecting his fourth child - his second with current wife 32-year-old Bella.

Speaking on ITV's Lorraine to Gaby Roslin this morning (April 9), Stringfellow said: "I am very, very happy, very proud - deliriously happy, to be honest with you. Being a father at my age is fantastic."

On having a child at his age, Stringfellow was full of optimism for "brilliant" late fatherhood as he continued: "I'm 74, well I'm nearly 75 you know, in October.

"As you can see I'm married to a very gorgeous, beautiful wife who is such a fantastic mother, and we are having a great time together.

"I don't mind if people take a second glance and go 'wow, 70-odd'. So be it, late fatherhood isn't for everybody. What I'm saying is for me and people somewhat similar to me, it's a brilliant thing."

He also explained how his 20-month-old daughter Rosabella is actually an auntie to his grandchildren, and that Rosabella's sister is 51, and her brother 48, adding: "My oldest [grandchild] lives in Colorado, he is 24 and she is auntie to all of them."

The entrepreneur also revealed that he and Bella will be having a baby boy, and that he had been eager to name him Jagger before compromising with Jack.

"We've played with a few names, I wanted Jagger. Jagger James - James is the family second name, Jagger James Stringfellow," he said.

And when asked by Roslin whether he was a hands-on dad, Stringfellow declared happily: "Oh, very much so. I want to make this very clear - not only do I do nappies, I do poo nappies.

"I do the bathing and sometimes I put her to sleep but basically, let's be fair, her mum Bella is the mother personified... I'm the playtime daddy and I can't stop her from doing things she wants to do - which is very annoying to Bella."

Stringfellow also spoke about being diagnosed with cancer five years ago and having to have half his lung removed. He described how he initially went for a prostate cancer check, and although his results were clear for that, doctors found he had lung cancer.

"They found a little teeny sparkle on my chest, which amazed me because I've never smoked in my life," he explained. "I've done my fair share of drinking, never took drugs, apart from aspirin and all that stuff, and no smoking. I was just like, 'no no, it's a mistake'.

"If there is such a thing as a cure then I'm it, which makes me feel pretty good, I haven't missed my half a lung, let me just tell you."

Lorraine airs on weekday mornings at 8.30am on ITV.
