Peter Stringfellow shaves off the years as he ditches famous grey mullet in favour of clean crop to raise money for charity 

Peter Stringfellow bid farewell to his beloved mullet in favour of a cleaner crop to raise money for charity on Tuesday.

The father-of-three had the years shaved off him as celebrity hairdresser Nicky Clarke modernised his hairstyle on Loose Women in order to raise money for ITV's Text Santa campaign.

Peter, 75, played a good sport as he volunteered himself for the on-air make-over.

The nightclub owner looked younger than his 75 years after the talented styler had worked his magic, although he was apprehensive to go through with it at first.

'I’m frightened. I want my mummy,' he joked as he got comfortable in the hairdresser's chair.

Peter's new shorter barnet was revealed to the panel live on air and he entered the studio to a chorus of cheers.

'What am I going to do with this hand now? It's gone,' he said as he tried to flick his hair with his hand before likening himself to TV's favourite silver fox - Philip Schofield.

Peter told the hosts: 'I’ve got three people to worry about, my wife who loves it short, Ozzie Rizzo who is my regular hairdresser and he’s going to kill Nicky, and my little girl, I hope she recognises me! It’s going to cost me one hairspray per five years.'

Janet was particularly impressed with his new style and said: 'You look thirty years younger. I can’t get over how much better it looks.'

Peter was given a framed certificate in memory of his much-loved mullet, which read: 'In loving memory of Peter Stringfellow's mullet tragically taken from him Tuesday 1st December 2016.'

'Thanks @NickyClarkeOBE that was good fun...Peter,' he wrote on Twitter as he shared a picture of his newly-acquired youthful style.

Peter has kept a relatively low profile in recent months after welcoming his second child with third wife Bella in September.

'Wow! It [the labour] lasted one hour and we have a beautiful baby boy. His name is Angelo!! thanks to every body for your best wishes Peter and Bella (sic),' he told his Twitter followers.
