Navaratna – Nine Stones

04 Nov 2022

The nine gems are part of a cultural, historic jewelry style called the Navaratna (Sanskrit for “nine gems”). The Navaratna gems, including their placement in jewelry and decor, have religious, mythological, and astrological significance. Astrologically it is advised to help the wearer to block all the negative energies in their lives. To promote economic prosperity, professional growth and great health, this sacred combination is highly recommended in Vedic astrology.

Which are the nine precious stones?

Each gem represents part of the Solar System, starting with Ruby or Padparadscha Sapphire (for Sun) at the center. The remaining eight gems that surround Ruby / Padparadscha Sapphire are:

·         Pearl or Moonstone (Moon)

·         Red Coral (Mars)

·         Emerald or Green Zircon (Mercury)

·         Yellow Sapphire (Jupiter)

·         Diamond or White Sapphire (Venus)

·         Blue Sapphire (Saturn)

·         Hessonite Garnet (Rahu) (North Lunar Node)

·         Cat’s Eye Chrysoberyl (Ketu) (South Lunar Node)

The jewellery created using the nine gemstones are known as Navaratna Jewellery. This can be typically in the form of rings, necklaces, pendants or earrings. The navaratna ring is the most popular navaratna jewellery.

Ancient royals wore Navaratna amulets, and today, the Navaratna is still tied to royalty in Thailand, where it serves as the king’s official symbol.
